Finding a charity

How do I find charities near me in the UK?

In short: Use CharityCompare city pages and cause×city hubs — for example animal charities in Bristol — which list local organisations plus UK-wide charities serving the area. Verify each charity number before donating.

Start at /cities or /browse. “Near me” on CharityCompare means registered charities connected to a city, not every food bank, church collection or informal mutual-aid group.

A useful order:

  1. Pick a cause (homelessness, animals, poverty) and a city.
  2. Compare local providers with national charities that also work there — scale is a model choice, not automatically better or worse.
  3. Verify the charity number on the profile or the official register.
  4. If you want beds, rehoming or advice in one postcode, a local charity may match your intention better than a household name. See UK-wide vs local.
