Checking a charity

How do I check a CCNI Northern Ireland charity number?

In short: Search the name or CCNI number on CharityCompare or the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland register. Match the registered name to the appeal before giving. Start at the Northern Ireland hub.

Data from CharityCompare editorial, last updated .

Northern Ireland charities are registered with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (CCNI). Numbers often start with NIC.

  1. Copy the name or number from the appeal — not from a shortened payment link.
  2. Search on CharityCompare or the CCNI register.
  3. Confirm status, registered name and what the charity is constituted to do.
  4. Donate via the charity’s official site.

The CCNI register is newer than England and Wales, so some organisations have a shorter published filing history. CharityCompare still shows the official record; a full Clarity Score appears only when the return fields support it. Related: OSCR checks and is this appeal a scam?.
