Scottish charities are registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), not the Charity Commission. Every Scottish charity must register, regardless of income.
- Take the name or number from the appeal (numbers often start with SC).
- Search on CharityCompare or the OSCR register.
- Check that the registered name, status and objects match what you were asked to support.
- Give through a website or account you typed yourself.
CharityCompare carries a profile for OSCR charities. Where published returns are too thin for a fair Clarity Score, you still get the official number and a link to the register rather than an invented rating. See also CCNI checks and how to check a charity is registered.
