What the charity does

The Shetland Folk Society organises the annual Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year competition. The competition brings together fiddlers from throughout Shetland to celebrate our musical heritage. Young fiddlers perfect and perform both traditional and contemporary Shetland fiddle music in preparation for the competition. In learning and memorising these tunes young fiddlers become part of a shared musical community and their ability to play these tunes plays an important role in preserving and passing on our musical and cultural heritage for generations to come. The public are welcome…
