Kingseat is accessed by the B979 road and also has pedestrian access to both Newmachar and the Formartine & Buchan Way Trail. The settlement name is visible on maps dating back to 1637 and is said to come from when King Malcolm Canmore rested on a stone on the original Kingseat farm after the slaying of Macbeth at Lumphanan in 1053.
