The GSCO was founded in 1963 to provide an opportunity for older people to play music together and to provide entertainment for community groups of the elderly, based on the recognition that involvement in live music is beneficial to mental health and wellbeing. It has maintained this focus throughout its existence and in 2025 became a registered charity.
