3.1 The aim of the SCIO is to be a centre for excellence for local history in the Gala Water valley collecting, recording and preserving artefacts and records of local historical significance for the enjoyment, education and information of all members of the local community and visitors as well as advancing knowledge and understanding of the rich heritage of the Gala Valley and its place within wider Scottish history. We do this by giving history walks and talks, holding a monthly reminiscence group, curating annual exhibitions and hosting a heritage centre in Stow Town Hall
