Scoring

# What is a good Clarity Score?

**In short:** 90–100 is exceptional (5★), 75–89 is good (4★) and the Give with Confidence threshold, 60–74 needs improvement (3★), and 1–59 is poor (2★). Zero means not rated — including an open statutory inquiry. The score measures accountability, not impact.

Data from [CharityCompare editorial](https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/), last updated 12 August 2026.

Stars use the **same bands as the labels**. There is no 1★ band.

- **90–100** — 5★ Exceptional. Filings are complete, punctual and easy to follow.

- **75–89** — 4★ Good. **Give with Confidence** starts here, if filings are up to date and there are no serious red flags.

- **60–74** — 3★ Needs improvement. Several things in the accounts would benefit from explanation.

- **1–59** — 2★ Poor. Read the filings and red flags before giving.

- **0** — not rated. An open statutory inquiry overrides everything else.

The score measures **accountability on paper**, not whether programmes work. Use it to rule out weak administration, then read the trustees’ annual report.
